Student Spotlight: Yeshan Qian

The following post is part of our Student Spotlight initiative

Yeshan Qian at the 2018 Conference on Frisian Humanities

My name is Yeshan Qian. I am currently a first year Ph.D. student in the Learning, Development, and Instruction specialization. Here are some of my updates and progress: I have been doing research under Dr. Colette Daiute’s guidance, on heritage language learners among Chinese immigrant families in New York City since the Fall 2020 semester. We mainly focus on peer collaborated instruction on teaching Chinese heritage language. We have done a literature review, proposed some interesting research questions along with the review, and searched some Chinese heritage language schools in New York. In 2020, I published an article with Eva J. Daussà, titled “Language transmission among multilingual Chinese immigrant families in the Northern Netherlands” in the Journal of Asian Pacific Communication.
